Project Description:

To provide comprehensive physiotherapy support for disabled children in the Jessore district. The physiotherapy centre was started with the financial help of local donors, Bangladesh Freedom Foundation, and Banchte Shekha’s own funds.

The centre purpose of creation and promotion of opportunities, services and facilities, which enable people with disabilities and their families/carers to participate in the wider community and to attain a better quality of life.

 

Project Objectives:

  • To develop programmes for disabled children & persons, focusing on early identification, therapeutic interventions, and education.

  • To organise and promote programmes for prevention of the disability.

  • To promote advocacy and networking on disability issues focusing on equalisation of opportunities for disabled people through the removal of physical and social barriers.

  • To promote empowerment of disabled people through community based services in collaboration with other organizations and social institutions (NGO's, Government, Self-help organisations, and private sector).

  • To promote collaboration opportunities nationally, regionally and internationally to share experiences and exchange the idea & expertise.

  • To provide skill development training such as handicrafts, to the disabled persons to create self-employment opportunity and provide marketing support for the goods produced.

 

Project Activities/ Achieved:

The services are unique in the large area of southwest Bangladesh especially the surrounding of Jessore. The centre offer following services;

  1. Physiotherapy: Since 2002, already 253 children received the physiotherapy support from the Centre.  At present, more than 20 children receive daily physiotherapy session at the Centre.

    The Centre also provides training to the mothers and carers, to make them able to provide this support at home.  The Centre’s expenses are covered by “La Bottega della Solidarieta” fund.

  2. Equipment & Assistive Device Support: The service aims to develop the physical condition of the disabled clients through assistive device and equipments. Through this support equip the centre with latest modern equipments and assistive devices. Vannozza e Roberta Dellaseta funded this project.

  3. Indoor Service: Banchte Shekha provides working opportunity to six disabled persons especially girls who have their accommodation in BS premises. Most of them are involved in BS office oriented work & income Generation Activities. This is covered by BS own fund and local donors.
